| 4th Annual Spirit of Islam Dinner |
|
"I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate; so whoever desires knowledge, let him enter the gate." - Prophet Muhammad "Seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave" - Prophet Muhammad Inspired by the above-mentioned sayings of the noble Prophet Muhammad, the Thaqalayn Muslim Association at the University of Michigan-Dearborn is pleased to present its 4th Annual Spirit of Islam Dinner in celebration of EID-el-GHADEER, featuring world class neurobiologist Dr. Naweed Syed, head of cell biology and anatomy in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary and whose research is on the cutting edge of science to showcase his highly acclaimed and exciting research, while also speaking of a principle source of inspiration for himself - Imam Ali. The dinner will be held at 6:00PM on Saturday December 5th, 2009 at the Bint Jbeil Cultural Center in Dearborn, MI. Imagine a time when a child who loses a leg in an accident or to disease could be outfitted with the most advanced prosthetic in the world. It would be controlled by a microchip that turns her brain impulses into radio signals to control her bionic limb as if it were her natural leg. Dr. Naweed Syed, who’s research is directed to reaching the previously mentioned outcome will give a presentation that you do not want to miss as it promises to inspire all. We hope that this year's Spirit of Islam Dinner will motivate students to seek knowledge and apply it in action. We envision a cadre of students - that are rooted in and draw inspiration from their faith - who aspire for excellence and are moved towards contributing to the advancement of human civilization. Due to his intriguing accomplishments, Dr. Naweed Syed has been interviewed on multiple TV stations including the Discovery Channel, as well as, appearing on TIME magazine. The dinner also includes entertainment, a raffle, and an auction of various hand-made arts.
